A workshop to help educators reimagine the classroom

This spring, Pinnacle will host a groundbreaking Learning Space Design Lab, led by Lene Jensby Lange, founder of Autens, a Danish company specialising in innovative learning environments. The workshop invites educators to explore how they can think past traditional classroom layouts and transform their schools into inspiring, dynamic spaces that enhance learning, creativity, and student engagement.

Why learning spaces matter

Traditional classrooms, with rigid rows of desks and a teacher at the front, no longer meet the diverse needs of today’s students. Research and experience show that well-designed environments improve academic progress (by up to 25% a year) and boost well-being.

Schools should be places where young people feel motivated, comfortable, and empowered to take ownership of their learning yet unlike Denmark where young people are given ownership over their education, this is not the case in the UK.

Lene Jensby Lange has spent years rethinking educational spaces. Through her work with Autens, she has collaborated with schools, municipalities, and educators to develop learning spaces that are flexible, pupil-centred, and built for real-world learning. Her approach is rooted in research and hands-on experience, ensuring that space design aligns with the needs of both students and teachers.

What to expect from the Learning Space Design Lab

The Learning Space Design Lab is more than discussion and theory —it’s a highly interactive, hands-on experience where participants learn by doing and experiencing. The workshop will:

  • Introduce global best practices in learning space design, showcasing innovative schools from around the world.
  • Challenge traditional classroom layouts by encouraging participants to break free from outdated models.
  • Empower teachers and headteachers to rethink their learning spaces, regardless of budget constraints.
  • Provide practical, actionable ideas that can be implemented immediately.

Participants will engage in co-creation exercises and creative design methods to prototype new classroom layouts and school environments. They will be encouraged to build, experiment, and collaborate – and in doing so, they embody the active learning methods that Lene and her team advocate.

The event will also invite students to participate, ensuring that young people have a voice in the conversation.

By the end of the workshop, teachers and school leaders will leave with:

  • A new perspective on how learning environments shape education.
  • Practical tools and strategies to begin making changes in their schools.
  • A network of like-minded educators who are passionate about creating better learning spaces.

The Workshop will take place in the London area this spring.
