Project Overview

City of London Academy in Southwark appointed Pinnacle to complete the FF&E Consultancy and interior design for the LRC in their newly built Sixth Form Centre, along with supplying and installing the furniture.

The Brief

City of London Academy commissioned Pinnacle to provide FF&E Consultancy and Interior Design services for their LRC, reception area, staff offices and meeting room. This project follows the classroom and breakout area project that we delivered for the Academy in 2017.

City of London Academy is one of only 16 schools in the UK to have an AASE Basketball Programme, so we had to be mindful that many of the students would be over 6 foot tall when selecting furniture. We worked alongside a student focus group which included two basketball players, who we took to our London showrooms to test the furniture for their stature. During the briefing process, we were able to show an interactive visualisation of the new space, enabling the client to see the finished product and if necessary, make changes before Pinnacle began work on site. The Pinnacle Design Team wanted to create different working zones within the LRC space so that students could choose where they studied, depending on the task.

What We Did

Pinnacle provided several acoustic pods with integrated power modules, lighting and tables. The pods allow the students to work collaboratively on a joint task or for individual studying. The pods are tall enough for the basketball players who range from 6ft, and they have bespoke low-level connecting walls to bring in some natural lighting from the floor-to-ceiling windows. We supplied Feast benches with power modules, and the same Postura Plus chairs we used in the classrooms, which are comfortable and highly durable.

Contemporary, convex high-back sofas in lime and blue fabrics were placed around the pillars with freestanding laptop tables. To complete the LRC, we supplied an information desk which we strategically positioned to give views of the entrance corridor along with the main study space. In the reception area, Pinnacle provided a mixture of products to increase the functionality of the space; bespoke banquette seating with grey upholstering, Myriad tables, sleek chairs with a natural oak frame, classroom tables and Postura Plus chairs.
